Sliding doors are a natural application for switchable glass: clear, they connect spaces; frosted, they create privacy without a blind cassette or moving fabric. The approach suits meeting rooms, offices, apartments and bathrooms where every centimetre of circulation matters.
The leaf remains a moving element. Its connection completes thousands of cycles, passes frames and hardware, and users may pull the door with varying force. A cable improvised during installation is therefore a design error, not a cosmetic detail to tidy later.
1. Begin with the movement scenario, not only glass dimensions
The first drawing should show the door fully closed and fully open. Mark the parking side, travel length, handle, passed frames, gaps and finishes. Only this view can define the connection edge and reveal possible collisions.
Describe daily use as well: how often the leaf will move, whether users leave it partly open and whether glass should switch automatically after closing. This affects cable mechanics, control logic and handover testing.

2. Pane, hardware and processing must be approved together
Active glass is a laminate made to final size. Holes, cut-outs, corners and hardware positions must appear on the manufacturing drawing. Changing the door system or moving a handle after pane approval can make the glass incompatible with the construction.
Hardware must not load the active edge or conceal the connection so it cannot be inspected. Tracks and carriages are selected for the mass and build-up of the complete leaf. Safety requirements are confirmed for the complete assembly, not inferred from the PDLC function alone.
3. Four ways to think about cable routing
There is no single detail for every door. The connection may run in a protected frame zone, through a component allowing controlled movement, in a dedicated carrier or in a solution prepared by the door-system supplier. The route is selected after reviewing geometry and cycle count.
Regardless of route, the cable must not be pinched, twisted, pulled or rubbed against a sharp edge. It needs movement allowance without a loose loop entering the leaf path. Mechanical stops must limit both end positions.

4. Controls should match user behaviour
A labelled switch near the door is often the simplest and best option. A meeting room can add a scene linked to booking or controls, but users should still understand the current state and have a predictable local control.
Automatic switching after closing requires reliable leaf-position information and an agreed power-failure behaviour. A frosted pane must not be treated as complete blackout. Its role is to obscure recognisable images while retaining diffused light.
5. Installation and handover must test movement, not only two glass states
After installing the leaf, check levelling, every position, stop operation and absence of cable contact with moving or sharp elements. Then perform a series of complete cycles while observing the connection before testing controls and both pane states.
Handover documentation should identify the power supply, circuit diagram, safe isolation method, permitted door adjustment and cleaning guidance. Later carriage adjustment without awareness of the cable can alter its position or tension.

6. Information for an initial sliding-door review
A full technical package is not required to start. A site photo or plan, indicative leaf width and height, intended track system, opening direction, room type and preferred controls are enough for an initial review.
DGF will identify what must be completed before quotation and manufacture. The priority is to connect the glass discussion with the door system and electrical work early. This preserves clean aesthetics and avoids an improvised connection in the finished interior.
In practice: Mark the parking direction and available power-supply location on the photo. If the door system is selected, include its section or technical sheet.
